"Though I've belted you and flayed you,
By the livin' Gawd that made you,
You’re a better man than I am, Gunga Din!"
The resurrection of the “fairness doctrine” debate comes at a curious time; senate members of both parties are licking their wounds over the bruising they took on the immigration amnesty bill. One senator in particular, Lott of Mississippi, came right out and blamed talk radio for the butt-kicking. He is taking the position that he is an intellectual superior to the mind-numbed robots who listen to talk radio and therefore something must be done to quiet those in opposition to his brilliant legislative proposals. As always, those in Washington, isolated from the reality of main-stream America, maintain their elitist attitudes and act as though they know better than the rest of America what is good for the country.
Senator Lott of Mississippi says;
“I’m sure senators on both sides of the aisle are being pounded by these talk-radio people who don’t even know what’s in the bill,”……….. “leadership will have to be prepared to do what needs to be done.”-freerepublic.com

Senator Diane Feinstein of California says in speaking about the amnesty bill and talk radio;
“This is a very complicated bill,"….. "Most people don't know what's in this bill. Therefore, to just have one or two things dramatized and taken out of context, such as the word amnesty -- we have a silent amnesty right now, but nobody goes into that. Nobody goes into the flaws of our broken system."
The same article goes on to say;
Feinstein said the measure before the Senate "fixes those flaws" but that doesn't get presented on talk radio, which she said "pushes people to ... extreme views without a lot of information."……….. “I remember when there was a fairness doctrine," she said, "and I think there was much more serious correct reporting to people."- http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Top_News/2007/06/24/feinstein_might_push_for_fairness_doctrine/9684/
How can limiting freedom of speech be “fair”? Isn’t the freedom of speech and the right to either agree or not agree and then to have the ability and the right to voice that opinion the ultimate freedom? Freedom is fair to everyone, laws limiting the voices of opposition are unfair and the consummate restriction on freedom and fairness.
The meaning of freedom has been lost in today’s politically correct America;
FREE- “Not imprisoned or enslaved; being at liberty. Not controlled by obligation or the will of another…..Not affected or restricted by a given condition or circumstance…Not subject to arbitrary interference by a government.”-answers.com
FREEDOM- “The condition of being free of restraints…..Political independence….The capacity to exercise choice; free will…The right to unrestricted use”- answers.com
Because the senate was pressured into doing the people’s will by a vast majority of Americans (the Capitol switchboard was overwhelmed and shutdown by a flood of calls from the opponents of the amnesty bill), we now are facing the possibility of a law that would dilute that pressure. This attitude and arrogance of our elected officials is intolerable and unacceptable. Those we have voted into power are now trying to limit our voices; we have to let them know we will never let that happen. Do not let them divide us by making this a two sided political issue. This is an outright attempt to silence everyone of all political persuasions who don’t agree with their elitist legislative proposals. A restriction of freedom of speech is an attack on all Americans, no matter how far left or right they are.
